"The time has come to approach architecture urbanistically and urbanism architecturally."
Alison Smithson

The American City itself is only the most obvious manifestation of a field condition: an enormous deterritorialized plane, its boundaries contingent on a particular geography and topography, reterritorialized by any of various patterns, some of which are inscribed on the ground, many of which may lie beneath the thin occupiable surface, insensible yet controlling Š infrastructural points and lines of force.
K. Michael Hays

AllenÕs work only matters after dark, in that historical moment when the metropolis is no longer constrained by its visible, hierarchical parts, but is stimulated by the stochastic motion of disparate multiplicities dancing across its surfaces, provoking speculative arrangements at once commercial and critical.
